Guidelines for optimum use of your computer -
- Install only those software on your
computer, which you need always. Do not create rubbish by installing a large
number of software in your computer. This slows down your computer and
increases its electrical power consumption also.
- Use legal software only.
- Defragment you computer regularly. At
least once in a week. For this follow the path to find the defragmenter tool
on your computer -

- Run disk cleanup regularly, at least once

- Always use virus guard. A good virus guard, which is
freely available on the net is
AVG. I have tested it and got very successful
results.
- It is free and can be downloaded, installed very
easily. The only problem with any anti virus
guard is that it requires regular updating from the net.
Click here to download the AVG.
- If you want more protection from
spyware also, then
- Always create backup of your important data either on
CD/DVD or on the net. For storing your data on the net you can obtain more
space for free in the email accounts like
www.gmail.com,
http://www.diino.com/offer01.html,
www.hotmail.com, www.tripod.com etc.
- If you connect to the internet regularly and continue
chatting with your friends, then install a proxy server utility on your
computer. This will always hide your IP address with good security. I have
tested different types of proxy server utilities and found some of them to
be very good...
- While choosing password for any application, either
online or offline, like for your email accounts, websites, data folder on
the net, etc. you must keep following points in mind -
- Never keep your password same as the username.
- Never choose your own name, surname, date of birth,
spouse's name, pet's name, child's name, etc. as your password. Those
can be easily cracked by the crackers.
- Always try to choose a word which is not within the
dictionary, e.g.
%KMoT#03kDjL$ etc.
- Some of the wild card characters like
%, #, $, *, &, ^ are allowed for any
type of password
field.
- While going through these tips and
tricks, the students are requested to give me
feedback or
contact me directly on my email address
dsvakola@hotmail.com about
their queries and suggestion so that this section can be made more helpful
for my students...
